BASKET MARKET – Segafredo Virtus Bologna terminates contract with Devontae Cacok: The center has been sidelined since December 28, 2023.
Virtus Bologna has announced that, following the decision of the Permanent Conciliation and Arbitration College of the Lega Basket Serie A, the sports performance contract with player Devontae Calvin Cacok has been officially terminated. The termination, accepted after the appeal filed by the club, will take effect as of September 30, 2024. This decision marks the end of the professional relationship between Virtus Bologna and the American player.
Reasons for the Termination of the Contract
The termination of the contract with Cacok was due to his prolonged absence, resulting from a serious injury he sustained on December 28, 2023, during the EuroLeague game against Partizan Belgrade. As of today, nearly 12 months after the incident, the player has not yet recovered the necessary physical condition to resume professional basketball.
Support and Assistance from Virtus Bologna
In compliance with the provisions of the collective agreement, Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna will continue to provide medical assistance to Cacok until December 31, 2024. The goal is to support the player in his recovery, hoping he will be able to return to professional competition in the future.
Official Statement:
Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna S.p.A. announces that today, the Permanent Conciliation and Arbitration College of the Lega Basket Serie A, chaired by Professor Carlo Zoli, has published the arbitration award in which, accepting the appeal filed by the club, defended by attorney Mattia Grassani from Bologna, the sports performance contract with player Devontae Calvin Cacok has been declared resolved, effective as of September 30, 2024. The contractual relationship between the two parties is hereby terminated.
The reasons for the termination of the contractual relationship and, consequently, the federal registration with the American player stem from the prolonged recovery period due to the injury he sustained on December 28, 2023, during the EuroLeague game against Partizan Belgrade, which, nearly a year later, still renders the player unfit for sports activity.
In compliance with the collective bargaining provisions, the club will continue to provide medical assistance to the player until December 31, 2024, wishing him a full recovery to reach optimal athletic condition for the continuation of his career.
